Johanna Berberena is a Puerto Rican-New York raised licensed master social worker. She graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in 2010 and quickly began providing sociotherapy services to children, adolescents, and family in foster care with dysfunctional relationships. For the past 7 years, Johanna has devoted herself to providing patients with treatment during crisis at a psychiatric inpatient unit.
Johanna’s passion is to help guide others through their own self-discovery and personal healing journey to become the person they desire to be. She has experience working with clients on a range of issues and life experiences, including, but not limited to parent/child relationship, trauma, abuse (physical, sexual, and emotional), grief, depressive and anxiety disorders, bipolar and related disorders. Johanna’s goal for therapy is to provide a safe, trustworthy space where clients feel comfortable and feel acceptance to allow you to share your own unique story. She strongly believes that everyone goes through difficult moments in life, and at times, we need additional emotional support. Johanna believes that therapy is a joint effort and will work together with her patients to gain awareness, healing, and inner peace. She utilizes a wide variety of treatment modalities including, but not limited to Motivational Interview and Client-Centered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). As a team, Johanna will use the treatment modality that is best suited for her clients and their present challenges, taking into consideration the client’s strength as they are very important in the path to healing.
